Crazy Catos Bella

Something that challenged me was the log challenge because we all got lost and confused. I really enjoyed the Burma trail because you never know what's coming next. Camp was awesome and a big challenge.

Creative Kidd-li-winks

We have been learning how to make pom poms. To make a pom pom we have needed to show lots of determination. We looked in Pinterest http://www.pinterest.com/ for some ideas and inspiration. Pinterest is a place where you can find lots of ideas to make and create.

We planned what we wanted to create and began creating. Sometimes our plans worked perfectly and sometimes we needed to make changes to our plans because things didn't work out as expected.

The Kidd-li-winks have shown so much creativity and have problem- solved when ideas haven't worked. Look at some of the amazing creations.

Camp reflection Jerome

Easy Blog Photo
I really loved the water slide because there was bubbles to make you go TURBO FAST!!! And at the end of the slide there were rugby post pads that you smash into. You could go on your knees , tummy , butt and back. I had to have determination to keep on trying to shoot 2 hoops! I kept on trying again and again and I did it!

Water Slide

The water slide was a real favourite at camp. It was sooo  much fun even the teachers couldn't resist giving it a go. Well done to all children who went out of their comfort zone to go down the water slide. Ahhhhhhhhh!
The children got more and more confident and went flying through the air like Superman and crashing into the rugby pads...sometimes bowling over the parents. We all loved it lots. Can you see the horror and excitement in our faces all at the same time?
Can you spot the only crash on the water slide? Who was it?

Working Together

The camp challenges have begun in Room 8.

The challenge was to work together to create something connected to camp or our group name.
We got points for working together well, being encouraging to our team mates, compromising and making something creative.

Bella and Jerome figuring it out together

Bailey and Ruby problem-solving

Logan showing determination

The Legendary Leopards all helping each other

George and Logan discussing how to make it work

Henrietta and Ruby trying to make changes

Jerome being a Crazy Cato our the cat door

Racing Rabbits built themselves a rabbit hutch
The children are ALL working hard to earn points for their camp groups.

Acrostic Poems

igers are a very endangered species of cats!
I n some circuses just one mistake THWACK!!!
rinding the tigers bones is so cruel!
E xtinct is the end of tigers if we don't stop.
are.
S ave the tigers!
!

Jerome wrote this poem about tigers and it inspired us all to write our own poems. It is a special kind of poem where each letter of the word begins each sentence.
It is called an acrostic poem.

We had to change our sentences around to make the beginning letters fit our poem.

Preparing for a party

We worked together with Room 14 to practise our learning about capacity. We had many different stations we needed to complete to get ready for a party.
Toby working with Keagan to find out
how many blocks the fruit weighs
Zane thinking...thinking...thinking
We measured in blocks and grams

Each person at the party will use 10mLs of sauce.
How much sauce will you need?
Isabella measuring 10mLs into
each container
Henrietta working out how much
sauce she will need for a party
15x10=150 mLs

Faith measuring sand for her
sand and water cake
Caitlyn counting in 1/2 litres
1/2, 1, 1 1/2, 2, 2 1/2, 3

Adding 2L of sand to the sand and water cake

Reading the ingredients for the fruit punch

Bowen and Lealou checking their punch will
fit in the jug
George calculating his ingredients to make icing
Bailey and Cloe adding 1/2 teaspoon of each ingredient.
1 teaspoon =5mLs so 1/2 teaspoon =2 1/2 mLs

Thomas and Gwen making a basket to hold
between 60 and 80 lollies

Our human scale
Even though the icing sugar is smaller than the cornflakes it weighs more

Feeling what about 25 kgs feels like
Lots of mess, fun and learning.

Some reflections from Room 8

I learnt how to count in 1/2s.
I learnt that weight is measured in grams and that 1,000 grams makes a kilogram.
I learnt that a teaspoon has 5 mLs and how to cut 5 in half.
I learnt 1 litre has 1,000mLs and I counted in thousands.
I learnt to count in 30s because I can count in 3s.
I got better at estimating how many mLs will fit in containers

Capacity learning

We are learning about capacity

Our challenge was to work out how many milliliters were in each container

We knew
1 cup = 250mLs
1/2 cup = 125 mLs
15 mLs = tablespoon
5 mLs = teaspoon

We used the measuring equipment to add up amounts until the container was full.
Jerome and Toby problem solved and made a funnel out of paper
to get the beans in a sauce bottle to measure it.

The Ovals were scientists with some blood. They had blood and had to subtract mLs of blood. They used eye droppers to measure the mLs.

Henrietta solved 32 divided by 4 by
finding half of 32 and then half of 16
=8.
Caitlyn has 32mLs to divide into
4 containers. She tried 6+6+6+6 and
then added 2 more to each container
32 divided by 4=8
The Pentagons and Crescents had some alien slime that they needed to divide into different containers. They had to count the mLs carefully to make sure the same amount of slime was in each container.

Faith calculating 27 mLs shared
into 3 containers
Mya and Sharie measuring in mLs

Emma showing determination
to solve 24mLs shared into
4 containers. She tried 5 in each
container and then added 1 more.
The Kidd-li-winks made up their own potions

The potions would explode if
-Any one of the ingredients was 100 mLs
-If the whole potion was not exactly 600 mLs
-If there were not 6 ingredients
-If the ingredients were not measured accurately
