Calculating time

We are learning how to calculate time.

The Pentagons had a QR code time challenge. Each of the QR codes had a time problem to solve.
Bella and Ruby discussing the problem

Teague scanning the QR code to find out the question
Congratulations to Caitlyn and Henrietta who won the QR Quiz Challenge. Great calculating girls.

The problem
We needed to be at school by 8:30am on mufti day. We had to work out what time we would need to start getting ready so we arrived on time.

Here is some of the thinking

Jerome and Czar deciding what they need to do to get ready
for Mufti day

Ruby and Emma working together to calculate time

Neesha and Henrietta's plan for Mufti Day

Jerome's Plan
The next problem caused lots of laughs. The Kidd-li-winks choose what they were going to get Mr Gifkins ready for. He had to be ready by 7:15. What time did he need to start getting ready?
Teague and Bowen working out the time Mr G needs to get ready for
the rugby

his ballet lessons.

Advertising using PowToon

The Kidd-li-winks challenge was to create an advertisement to get people to buy our product, Butter Vegetable. We used Pow Toon and our challenge was to problem-solve and work out how to use PowToon in the best way to create an effective ad.

Room 8 would like to say thank you to Connor who came and helped us use PowToon. You were a wonderful expert and taught us all lots.

Making clocks

We are learning to tell the time. It is tricky because you can say times lots of different ways, for example, Quarter to three is the same as two forty five.

The Kidd-li-winks designed a clock they would like.

We are using the clocks we made to learn how to tell the time.
Can you tell the time with your whanau?

Remember
The little hand is the hour hand and moves slowly around the clock and
the big hand is the minute hand and moves quickly around the clock.

Naan Bread and Rangoli

Together with our buddy class we are preparing for Market Day at the end of Week 5                      (14 November).
We are making decisions about the healthy snack we are going to sell at Market Day.

We have made naan bread, both plain and garlic, and are deciding which will be best for Market Day.

We read books about rangoli patterns and made some of our own. The Kidd-li-winks and Room 2 worked really well together to create their patterns. Rangoli is usually made during Diwali and are welcoming patterns.

Some of the beautiful rangoli created

A big thank you to all the parents who have come in and helped us during our making and creating. We appreciate it lots.

Adding Detail

Henrietta wrote this amazing piece of writing. Enjoy reading it. It will captivate you from beginning to end. She has chosen the best detail to use in her writing.

Finally we arrived back at home from shopping. "Ooooo"I whispered because what I saw was really gross. Rudy my ginger cat had a black gooey tail hanging out of its butt. So we ran to the door and quickly unlocked it and by then Rudy had two little black paws. Thea picked up Rudy and took her to the birthing suite that's what me and Mum made her to have her kittens. It had blankets, towels and a hot water bottle. Dad sent all of us upstairs because we were frightened and when it was out of her bum we  were all allowed to come and see it. Also when we were upstairs I was crying because I thought the black kitten would die. Finally we could come downstairs, as soon as saw it, we all said "Oooo yuck" because it had all this blood, gunk  and umbilical chord hanging down. Rudy chewed on the umbilical chord and gobbled it all up. Straight after that Rudy started licking her first kitten.
Thirty minutes later... the second kitten was born, a cute adorable tabby. The same thing happened about the umbilical chord and the licking. Number three finally arrived, a little wet ginger, who was covered in blood even the face. Chomp, Chomp, chomp. Slurp, slurp. slurp. Snore, snore, snore Polly, my sister, was fast asleep me, Thea and Ezra were wide awake. Suddenly we heard Mum and Dad shouting at Rudy to put her fourth kitten into the birthing suite because it was born on the floor. A massive bit of blood was on the floor. Me, Thea and Ezra came down the stairs to see what was going on. "Yes! another kitten is born that means we will be able to keep a kitten". Dada was not happy because once he told us he was allergic to cats but we found out he wasn't actually allergic he just didn't like them. I felt sorry for Dad because we are letting Rudy have another batch of kittens.
