Ouch Stories

We thought about a time when we hurt ourselves and acted out our accident.
We added detail to our writing to paint a picture in the readers head.

I was swinging bar to bar and my hand started to get sweaty. I started to go a bit faster when I fell onto my back.
“Arrrr! Mum. Dad. My arm hurts. It is bleeding and blood is gushing out of my arm!”
Mum picked me up. “What’s the matter?” she asked. She took one look at my arm…and called “Brendon, Brendon! Call the hospital. Bring them here.”
I slowly settled down. Dad wrapped a towel to stop it bleeding.
The ambulance arrived and put me on a stretcher. They gave me something to breathe easier. They were in a hurry to get to the hospital. I looked mysterious and white like a ghost hiding.
I finally arrived and I got put to sleep. When I woke up I had a purple cast on.

Ouch! Down and down I went like a ball. My nose felt like it was gushing with blood but it wasn't. Once at school we got out of the school pool Mrs H said "Can I meet Room 8 down at the netball court." Room 8 said "Yes!" then somebody actually pushed me over. No one knows who did it. Do you? My eyes were light pink all around and my eyes were leaking with water down my cheeks.

My leg was red and swollen. I ran into my bedroom crying and didn't come out until it was cupcake time. It all started when we were playing barefoot 2's and Lachlan had his rugby boots on and I came to tackle him. Suddenly he got angry. I knew that he was angry because he was frowning at me "Rrrrrrrr". He had his foot up and then he stood on the side of my left foot. Unfortunately my bruise is still there now.

I jumped over the wire safely into the bunny area. I got the shovel not that safely and started digging down... and down... and down because I was trying to make a secret hide out for the bunny. And...splat!!!!!!!!! "Wa wawwa waaaaaaaaaaaaaa!" I hopped in to the house a blood trail was behind me. "Mummy mummy I cut my foot open". "Whaaaaat?"  Vroom vroom! We sped to the doctors. "Hello" said the doctor. "Can you please glue my foot together?" "Ok." It was sparkly purple he did it by gluing it on the side and sliding it around the gap. I stopped crying. I said "Why are smudging the glue?"" Because it will be even". My scar is still on me and I am 7 now.

Shopping

We have had the New World Little Shops in our room and the children have been playing shops with them each morning. For maths we decided to create a shop to practice adding tens and ones. We had grocery hampers to buy.

We had blank money and could create any notes we chose.

We took turns at being the shop keeper and checking people were paying the right amount for their groceries.

Toby paid for his grocery hamper. Did he pay the right amount of money?

Neesha is double checking she has the right amount of money to pay for her groceries.

Painting

We had a great time painting our houses. We learnt to mix many different colours and to use our paint brush in different ways to create different effects. Mrs H was so very proud of Room 8. The houses are all so unique and look amazing.

Caterpillar changes into chrysalis

We have swan plants in Room 8 and caterpillars that have been eating them very quickly. Last week we had a caterpillar change into a chrysalis in our game cupboard and another caterpillar change into its chrysalis while we were asleep at night.
Today we were very very lucky because we saw the caterpillar change into a chrysalis. It was something new for all of us to see.

In the holidays Mrs H was lucky enough to film the caterpillar change into a chrysalis. The whole change takes about 6 minutes. Here are the videos for you to see how it happens.

Sorry it is around the wrong way. I could not figure out how to turn the video around.

Visualising

We are reading The BFG and enjoying finding all about him. The Kidd-li-winks have lots of laughs about the wonderful things the giant says.

We are learning to make a movie in our head from the words in the story. Great readers make pictures in their head and imagine what the characters look like and how they are moving.

The Kidd-li-winks drew what they visualised.

Jerome visualised the BFG's cave with the dreams on the shelf and the snozzcumber on the table with Sophie hiding behind it. The Blood Curdling Giant has just barged in.

Faith has visualised the BFG with his huge flapping ears. Blood Curdling Giants is hairy all over with just a cloth wrapped around his waist.
Max has visualised The Blood Curdling Giant, who is much bigger than the BFG, coming into the BFG's cave.
Lawson has visualised the very scary  Blood Curdling Giant .
Jeevanjot has visualised the BFG telling Sophie abobut how disgusting the snozzcumber is to eat.
Rana has visualised the BFG carrying Sophie to protect her.

Creative Photos

We have been learning to use the camera effectively.
Our challenge was to take photos of the letters of our name.
We had to look in different places and in different ways to find our letters.
We used lots of different camera angles and had to turn the camera in lots of odd ways to get the perfect shot.
We needed a lot of determination and keep trying in different ways to get the best shots.

Can you read each name?
Come into Room 8 to see all our names in our classroom.

Place Value

We are learning about thousands, hundreds, tens and ones.
Signs of success
*Can make 4 digit numbers out of equipment
*Can read and write 4 digit numbers
*Use a zero if there is nothing in a place eg. 608
*Know how many are in each place.

We made place value robots.
Can you see how many hundreds, tens and ones are in each robot?

Lawson

Jerome
Zane
Bailey
We played Place Value Battleships.
We had to think about each of the places, thousands, hundreds, tens and ones.
If a 6 is in the hundreds place it is 600.

Where can you practice reading big numbers?
Letterboxes?
Price tags?

The Kidd-li-winks each had a number. They made their number lots of different ways.

PRIDE

The teachers had to show all the aspects of PRIDE when a visitor arrived at our Teacher Only Day. We were going to be taught a hip hop dance to perform in front of the school. I had to concentrate very very hard to learn the moves so I could do my PERSONAL BEST. I had to keep trying even though it was tricky DETERMINATION. I was very nervous before we performed but it ended up being lots of fun.

Enjoy watching :)

This year in Room 8 there will be many different experiences that the Kidd-li-winks will be put out of their comfort zone and they will need to show PRIDE.

Room 8 created their first piece of art together. They used their fingerprints. The fingerprints show we are all going to show PRIDE the best we can throughout our year.

A moment in time poem

We chose a time in our holidays where we experienced enjoyment or showed determination when something challenged us. We tried to add in detail so the reader could paint a picture in their head. We had fun using an app called 'Visual Poet' to publish them for others to read.

Room 10 has been writing just like this. Click on the link to read Mrs Roil's and some of Room 10's writing
